Get to Know "Another Twenty-Something"

You're never just another twenty-something, but let's make a little sense of what it means to be just that.
My name is Hannah Justine, and I started "Another Twenty-Something" with one goal in mind - to create a community for people who may feel isolated or lost during a time in their lives that can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. A time where there are so many expectations from others and ourselves, even when our biggest problems still tend to be how long is too long to keep using the expired ketchup in the refrigerator door.
Although I am still very much in my early twenties, I feel as if I have experienced just enough to slightly define this era of my life. In a word: uncertainty. And so many people, including myself, find so much discomfort in uncertainty.
From the time we are born, we have a significant portion of our early lives laid out for us. Elementary then high school, and then, if you choose to go to college, another four years that are explicitly planned out for you, from your course schedule to what time your student organization meets on Wednesday nights.
But as I have recently experienced, graduating from school, at whichever level of school that may be, throws us into this world of uncertainty. A world where, for the very first time, there is no one holding your hand telling you where to go next. No one telling us where to live, what we should do, or simply just reminding us to take out the trash on Tuesdays. It's so exciting, but at the same time, so damn scary.
I appreciate the online sentiment that this uncertainty has become a united, shared experience. And although everyone approaches it differently, from the frat bros marching off to Wall Street or academia addicts enrolling in their third graduate program, we all go through this time in our lives where we're figuring things out, and I think there is so much wholesomeness and innocence to that.
So with "Another Twenty-Something," I wanted to create a space where we can all come to exhale and take a break from the outside world, despite how cliche it may sound. Here you can find reflections, discussions and commentary on all things pop-culture, self-compassion and, honestly, just random topics I tend to ramble on about.
I hope with this blog you are able to leave behind what troubles you and take what you need. Because I believe that being "just another twenty-something" can be such a beautiful collective experience, as it may very well be one of the few periods in our lives where you can truly understand what your friend, coworker or even stranger you see in a cafe may be going through. Because no matter how much we think we may have it all figured out, who the hell really knows?
